Ethel L. Ross, 85, of 407 Arlington Street in St. Marys, OH died 3:40 p.m. Friday July 2, 2010 at JTDM Hospital in St. Marys. 

She was born April 11, 1925 in Catlettsburg, KY to Howard and Helen (Moyer) Ross. 

On July 16, 1945 at the home of a country preacher near Catlettsburg, KY, she married Charles P. Ross, who survives. 

She is also survived by:

  •                             daughter E. Darlene (James) Hollman  of St. Marys, OH

  •                              son Charles "Bud" (Kay) Ross  of St. Marys, OH

  •                              8 grandchildren: Jim (Julie) Hollman, Todd (Missie) Hollman, Amy (Dave) Griffin, Nicole (Tim) Carpenter, Scott (Stephanie) Ross, Heidi (Kerry) Walls, Ben (Sara) Laux, Travis (Bev Ditmer) Laux

  •                              20 great-grandchildren

  •                              sister Elsie Mae Michelson  of Black River Falls, WI

  •                              brother Richard (Jean) Rucker  of Tipp City, OH

  •                              4 half-sisters:  Lucy (Bud Casper) Custer  of Banning, CA

  •                                                     Evelyn (Bob) Papenfus  of Beavercreek, OH

  •                                                     Nellie (Dick) Parks  of La Quinta, CA

  •                                                     Rosa Lee Sipple  of Fernadina Beach, FL

  •                               1 half-brother: Oliver "Tink" (Lottie) Cumpston  of Baltimore, MD

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elzie Rucker; brother, Woodrow Rucker; brother, Cecil Rucker; step-father. Oliver Cumpston, Sr. 

She was a homemaker. Her work history outside the home began at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, OH where she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" to  assist in the home-front effort of World War II. It was while working there that she met her airplane mechanic future husband. After moving to St. Marys, she later retired as a production employee from the St. Marys Cotton Mill. 

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  

Her interests and hobbies included flowers, butterflies, crocheting and collecting porcelain dolls. 

Rites are scheduled 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 10, 2010 at Miller Funeral Home & Cremation Service 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, in St. Marys. 

Visitation 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home on Celina Road. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize Co. Cancer Association.
