Winona Marie (Howell) Brown

Winona Marie Brown, 90, of New Knoxville, died at 4:30 P.M. Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Vancrest of Saint Marys Nursing Home after a brief stay.

She was born August 14, 1930, in Saint Marys, Ohio, the daughter of Tom and Edna (Hines) Howell, Sr .On June 4, 1949 she married Donald N. Brown; he preceded her in death on September 16, 2008.

Winona is survived by her children: Dennis Brown of Celina; Randy Brown of New Knoxville and Vanessa (Tom) Knostman of New Knoxville.

Her surviving grandchildren are; Tiffany (Jeremy) Dixon; Dr. Dale (Anna) Brown; Rachel Brown-Smith; Charles Knostman; Amy (Chad) Selby and Tracey (Jacob) Wilcox.

Also great-grandchildren: Cora, Wyatt, Titus and Mica Dixon; Amos, Magnolia, and Wren Brown; Mathew Smith; Jamie Knostman; Aaron, Xavier and Deanna Selby; Skyler Ballweg; Aideen Knostman Wilcox; and Alecs Wilcox.

Winona’s surviving sisters are: Althea (Howard) Wellman; Carolyn (Al) Waterman and Arliss (Jerry) Martin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommy Howell.

Winona was a graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School, and retired from Hayes-Albion Corporation in Spencerville. She also was the co-owner of Brown’s Service Station in New Knoxville. Winona was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and was a hard worker all her life. Her love of cooking was widely known. If you knew Winona, you likely would have had a chance to taste her garlic salad and other delights. Her home was filled with love and happiness and you were always welcome. She was a long time member of the Saint Marys First Church of the Nazarene.

Funeral rites will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, the Reverend Tim Smith, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be made to the Saint Marys First Church of the Nazarene. 

All visitors to the funeral home are required to wear a mask, in accordance with the mandate of the Ohio Department of Health.
