William “Willie” Holtkamp, 93, of New Knoxville, died 11:15 A.M. Monday, August 1, 2022, at the residence where he also was born and got married.
He was born August 6, 1928, in New Knoxville, the son of George H. and Lydia (Schroer) Holtkamp.
He married Ginger Preston on May 24, 1989; she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his children David (Sandy) Hooper of Powell, Ohio; Kelly (Jay) Sage of Bellefontaine; Kay (Bruce) McDaniel of Wapakoneta.
He is survived by 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 7 nieces and 3 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert Holtkamp and Reuben “Jetty” Holtkamp.
Will was a 1946 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a veteran of the US Army. He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a pilot who flew his own plane, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to his cabin in Pennsylvania. He was the former caretaker of Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville, and was very active with American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 5, 2022, at Immanuel Church in Kettlersville, Pastor Ed Rinehart and Pastor Bruce McDaniel, officiants. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Immanuel Church, where memorial gifts may be given to either the church or Grand Lake Hospice.
