Suellen Hicks (VanTilburg), February 4, 1948, to June 8, 2026
Suellen Hicks (VanTilburg) of Findlay, Ohio, peacefully passed away at Fox Run Manor, 11745 Township Rd 145, Findlay, OH 45840.
Born on February 4, 1948, in Kenton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Grace VanTilburg (Hamilton) and Vernon VanTilburg.
Sue graduated from Riverdale High School in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio, in 1966 as a member of the first graduating class when the school opened. She furthered her education at Rhodes State College.
Suellen built a career at A.O. Smith as a factory employee in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, where she met her husband, Jerry Hicks. They made their home in Kenton, Ohio. Jerry preceded her in death on October 23, 2005.
Sue was a devoted animal lover, especially of her beloved pets Jackie Jo and Molly. Although she had no children of her own, she was a cherished mother-mentor to her nieces and nephews, Danielle Bash (St. Claire), Paige Collinsworth (St. Claire), Stephanie Dapper (Higgins), Aimee VanTilburg, and Joshua VanTilburg, with whom she loved spending time. She and Jerry enjoyed spontaneous road trips together, and Sue found great joy in oldies music and collecting dolls and trinkets. Sue will be remembered for her kind heart, adventurous trips to Las Vegas with family members, especially her sisters Pat and Beth, and the special way she touched the lives of her family and pets.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Higgins (VanTilburg) (May 16, 2001).
Sue is survived by her sister, Beth St. Claire (VanTilburg); brothers Douglas VanTilburg (wife Barbara Clark) and Michael VanTilburg (wife Debra Davis); and her loving nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place under the care of Miller's Long & Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, Ohio (419) 394-4632.
A graveside service and celebration of life at Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Ohio, will be announced at a later date for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, 4550 Fostoria Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840 (419) 423-1664.
