Shirley R. Hamilton Obituary
Shirley R. Hamilton, 89, of Elida, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday July 15, 2024, at her residence. Shirley was born on March 19, 1935, to Raymond S. and Mary C. (Donhaiser) Wienken in Spencerville, Ohio, and they preceded her in death. On September 4, 1956, Shirley married R. Kenneth Hamilton who preceded her in death on June 25, 1988.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters: Teresa (Jerry) Gilden of Delphos, Ohio, and Darlene Coolidge of Elida, Ohio. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye: Erik Jettinghoff; Megan (Terence) Hoff; Jenna (Jeremiah Mckie) Gilden; Brice (Rachel) Coolidge; Sidney (Luke Greeley) Coolidge. She is also survived by one great grandson, who she dearly loved, Amias Mckie.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Spencerville High School and a 1956 graduate of the Lima Memorial School of Nursing. Shirley was a retired nurse. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lima. She was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Shirley was also a member of the Spencerville Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary and Senior Citizen’s Goldenaires Choir. Shirley enjoyed reading, doing activities with her many friends, and most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra, who died at birth, and her son – in – law Douglas Coolidge. She is also preceded in death by her brother William Wienken, sister – in – law Virginia Wienken, brother Richard Wienken, sister – in – law Mary Wienken, sister Marcella Dieringer, brother – in – law Donald Dieringer, sister Betty Kantner, brother – in - law Ned Kantner, and sister Joan McClintock.
Visitation will take place on Friday July 19, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church at 201 North Pierce Street in Delphos, Ohio, followed immediately by a Funeral Mass with Father Tony Vera, celebrant. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos. Memorials in Shirley’s memory are to be directed to Ronald McDonald House.
