Robert A. Makley, 92, St. Marys, Ohio passed away at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2020.
He was born September 7, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, Ohio. He and his wife Alma loved spending their winters in Naples, Florida.
On June 24, 1950 he married Alma Mae Schwieterman at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Ohio.
He is survived by his son Mike (Holly) Makley of St. Marys, Ohio
daughter Lee (Dan) Boeckman of Cincinnati, Ohio daughter Lyn (Rick) Heinl of Tipp City, Ohio
daughter Julia (Alex) Dumm of Columbus, Ohio
Twelve grandchildren: Jamie (Adam) Binaut, Stacy (Chad) Bitler, Jenny (Josh) Asher, Rochelle (Ryan) Bednarczuk, Andy (Melanie) Heinl, Nick (Amanda) Heinl, Andrea (Ron Schultz) Dumm, Erica (Trevor) Stone, Tara (Jason) Marhover, Kelly (Shawn) Sheffield, Tony (Dorian) Makley, Jeff (Kelly Jo) Makley. In addition, he enjoyed each of his 31 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Hulda Gerstner Makley; wife Alma Schwieterman Makley; children Arthur Allen and Anna Marie Makley; sister Joanne Poppe; and brother Donald Makley who lost his life in action during World War II.
He was a graduate of the class of 1946, St. Marys Memorial High School.
He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in St Marys after more than 40 years of service.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys where he attended elementary school.
He was very adept at making his presence known at each and every event he attended, always adding fun and humor. He was interested in almost everything to include traveling, golfing, playing cards, hunting, and the collecting of most anything from hedge trimmers to stamps and coins. More than anything else, he treasured the time he was able to spend with his friends and family.
Visitation hours will be Friday, September 18, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. A mass of Christian burial, 10:30 a.m. with Father Alexander Witt, Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys, Ohio.
