Obituary

Paul Axe, 94, of Saint Marys, died 7:05 P.M. Thursday, August 17, 2023, at his son’s residence in New Bremen.

He was born November 24, 1928, in Saint Marys, the son of Bernard and Bertha (Anderson) Axe.

He married Bernice “Bea” Weghorst on August 26, 1950, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2020.

 

He is survived by his sons: Matthew (Linda) Axe of New Bremen, Daniel Axe of Celina. He is survived by his grandchildren: Brian (Katie) Axe; Leslie (Ben) Petrozello; Brett (Sheila) Axe; Jon (Lisa) Axe; Jessica (David) Swisher; Luke Axe;  Steven Axe; Dalton Axe. He is survived by his great-grandchildren: Andy, Charlie and Ellie Axe; Chiara Petrozello; Jack and Bradley Swisher; Scarlett Axe.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and by a son, Mark Axe. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Axe and John “Jack” Axe.

 

Paul was a 1947 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Goodyear Saint Marys as a supervisor after 43 years of service. He had coached Little League baseball for many years, and he enjoyed walking his dog. He and Jack Lawler lined the football field for the Saint Marys Roughriders team for numerous years. Paul loved his wife, Bea, very much, and his favorite thing was “being with Bea”. 

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, and the Knights of Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, Father Prasthanth Bandanaham, celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Friends may call  from 9:45- 10:45 A.M. on Thursday at the church, where memorial gifts may be given to the Friends of Holy Rosary School.
