Michael Anderson Obituary

Michael  J. Anderson, 82, of Saint Marys, died 3:40 A.M. Monday, February 3, 2025, at Vancrest of Saint Marys Nursing Home.

He was born August 25, 1942, in Celina, Ohio, the son of Aswin and Mary (Gast) Anderson.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Jane McCall of Falls Church, Virginia, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings: Robert Anderson; Donald (Bonnie) Anderson; David (Alice) Anderson; his sister-in-law, Cecelia Carvalho; his brother-in-law, Alan McCall.

Mike was a 1960 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He served in the US Army and then graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1968.

He taught accounting and business math for 17 years at Marion Local High School. He retired from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, where he founded the Friends of Holy Rosary and had served as an usher for 25 years. He also worked as a bingo caller at the church to raise funds for the school. He was a life member and 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and a life member of the American Legion.

Mike loved to ride his bike; he was a fan of Notre Dame football, University of Dayton basketball; the Cincinnati Bengals; the New York Yankees; in earlier years he enjoyed bowling and golfing.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Father Prashanth, celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Friends of Holy Rosary.
