Jon Brockert, 57, of Elida, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at his home, when a vehicle lost control and hit his home.
He was born April 30, 1963, in Lima, Ohio, the son of James and Joyce (Lawrence) Brockert.
He married Michele Bowman on June 18, 1989; she also died at the home on Wednesday morning.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Brockert of Lima; by his children: Aaron Brockert of Elida; David Brockert of Elida; Kristina Brockert of Ottawa. He is survived by his in-laws, Eldon and Sue Bowman of Lima; by a brother-in-law, Brian (Deb)Bowman along with their sons, Samuel and Wolf Bowman, of Manistee, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father.
Jon was a 1981 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Lima, and had worked in post offices in Saint Marys, Delphos, and Findlay over the years.
Jon, affectionately known as “JB”, was a beloved musician in the Christian music scene for many years. He was an excellent piano player, singer and arranger, bass player and drummer, and he spent more than 20 years playing with various music ministries in the area, including performing with Mike Hawkins, Pastor Todd O’Neal, Mark Burd, Paraclete, Revive Ohio and the Tommy Renfro Band. Jon also loved to share his talents with the local Emmaus Communities in Findlay and Sidney. He attended his walk to Emmaus in 2002. He and Michele traveled the world doing mission work, and leading worship in Germany, Nepal, and Grenada. A couple of Jon’s favorite songs to lead included “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and “Wash Me Away”; those songs defined his life’s work as a Christian missionary.. When JB wasn’t playing music, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching football. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his total commitment to serving Christ and His people. Jon Brockert was a true man of God, and if you ever met him, even once, he made you feel like you’ve been friends for a long time.
A celebration of Jon’s life will be held 5:00 P.M. Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the Union Chapel Missionary Church, 4869 Ada Road, Lima, Ohio, Pastor Mark Bayliff, officiant.
An open house will be held at the church from 2-5 P.M., where memorial gifts may be given to Hope For Home Ministries, Troy, Ohio.
