OBITUARY
Joan H. Steva, 85, of St. Marys, OH died 4:55 p.m. Tuesday August 19, 2025 at Otterbein – St. Marys.
She was born August 10, 1940 in Glynnwood, OH to William and Katharine (King) Schulte.
On June 15, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Glynnwood, OH she married Thomas E. Steva, who survives.

daughter Joyce (Terry) Ruppert of Sidney, OH
son Paul Steva of St. Marys, OH
son Phillip Steva of St. Marys, OH
9 grandchildren: Kelly Ruppert, Kyle Ruppert, Emily Steva, Kristi Muhlenkamp, Jo Steva, Kirk Steva, Casey Steva, Paul Steva, Zachary Steva
3 great-grandchildren: John Preston, Ty Preston, Lucia Steva
sister Elizabeth “Betty” Hardin of Sarasota, FL
Preceded in death by:
Parents William and Katharine Schulte; infant granddaughter Rachel Steva; brother Cyril Schulte; sister Bernice Vossler-Boyer
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1958) and Bowling Green State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education.
A dedicated teacher, she worked for the St. Marys City Schools, Sidney City Schools and Holy Rosary Catholic School. She also served as secretary of Auglaize Co. ARC for many years.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its altar-rosary sodality.
Faith and family were the cornerstones of Joan’s life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite pastimes included making arts and crafts, painting, sewing, quilting, reading and traveling throughout the United States and Europe with Tom.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday August 25, 2025 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys. Final resting place is the Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Holy Rosary School or Grand Lake Hospice.
