Howard J. Sandler, 83, of Saint Marys, Ohio, and formerly of Detroit, Michigan, died 12:50 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys.
He was born December 17, 1942, in Detroit, the son of Albert and Edith (Nusbaum) Sandler.
He married Cheryl Thornberg on December 14, 1968, in Detroit, and she survives in Saint Marys.
He is also survived by his son, Kevin (Tina) Sandler of Saint Marys; by his grandchildren: Nicholas (Rebekah Fiely) Sandler of Saint Marys; Rhiannon Sandler of Saint Marys.
He is survived by his sister, Arlene Firsht of Novi, Michigan; by his nieces and nephews: Cathy (Ray) Lambert; Barry (Terry) Firscht; Jon Firsht; Mickey Firsht.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother-in-law, Mort Firsht.
Howard was a graduate of Mumford High School in Detroit and attended the University of Detroit. He was the former co-owner of Sandler Stone Wholesale Company and for many years worked as an auto salesman and leasing manager at Southfield Chrysler, the largest Chrysler dealership in the world. He loved taking care of his cars and attending auto shows. He and Cheryl enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, to attend concerts and magic shows, and the true focus of his life was his grandchildren.
Howard’s family invites you to sit shiva with them and share a time of remembrance from 1:30 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in the Meyer Community Chapel on the campus of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, 11230 State Route 364, Saint Marys, Ohio. Memorial gifts may be given to Grand Lake Hospice in Howard's memory.
