Homer Sparks

Homer Sparks, 98, of Saint Marys, died 1:15 P.M. Thursday, January 19, 2023, at his residence.

He was born February 29, 1924, in Louisa, Kentucky, the son of Fred and Sallie (Varney) Sparks.

He married Rosalie Wright and she preceded him in death; he then married Rosemary Block, and she, too, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children: John (Tonya) Sparks of Saint Marys; Susan (Rex Alt) Sparks of Saint Marys; Julia (Dave) Brewer of Saint Marys. He is survived by his 24 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by both wives; by his sons: Jerry Sparks and James Sparks; by his siblings: James, Thomas, Walter, Harlen, Cora, Gertrude, Mae, Reva, Chloie; Frances.

Homer retired from Hoge Lumber Company in New Knoxville. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during WW II,  and was Baptist by faith. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a member of American Legion Post 9289.

Funeral rites will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys. Homer’s grandson, Pastor Kyle Brewer, will officiate the funeral rites, and burial, with military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M .Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to his family to assist with final expenses.
