OBITUARY
Elizabeth “Betty” M. Patten, formerly of St. Marys, OH died 12:18 p.m. Friday April 3, 2026 at the Christian Village at Mason, OH.
She was born October 28, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Frederick J. and Bernice (Strohl) Matthews.
On May 25, 1962 in Winter Park, FL she married Dr. Roy Stuart Patten who preceded her in death May 17, 2006.
Survivors include:
son Dr. John (Naomi) Patten of Hampden, ME
daughter Julia Patten Cross of Reno, NV
daughter Cynthia (Douglas) Tann of Maineville, OH
daughter Wendy (Carl, d’cd) Wampler of Imlay City, MI
11 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren
brother John Matthews USAF (retired) of Fairfax, VA
brother James Matthews of St. Louis, MO
A registered nurse, she worked alongside her husband, Roy S. Patten, M..D., in his clinical hematology practice, having served in Bangor, ME and later, communities in Mercer and Auglaize Counties of Ohio for many years.
Her favorite pastimes included traveling, knitting, reading, camping and oil painting. Faith and family were the cornerstones of Elizabeth’s life. Her strong faith in God was evident in the fact that she volunteered in the churches she attended and also sang in the choir. She and Dr. Roy participated in several medical mission trips, assisting those in need around the globe Following Dr. Roy’s death, she spent many years volunteering for Caring Partners International, preparing supplies for their medical missions.
A period of visitation, sharing and remembrance in honor of Elizabeth M. Patten will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at The Christian Village at Mason, OH.
Private family burial will take place the following day at Swamp College Cemetery in rural Mercer Co., Ohio.
