Edward Carroll Obituary

Edward Eugene Carroll, Sr., 90, of Albany, Indiana died September 2, 2025 at his home.

He was born August 2,1935 in Witt, Illinois to Carman R. and Fern (Craig) Carroll. 

He graduated from Nokomis High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957. 

In 1959, he married Janette Zimmerman and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2021.

He is survived by his children: Edward (Patricia) Carroll of Daleville, Kenneth Carroll of Albany, Annette Carroll of Royerton, Dana McEldowney of Portland, Carole (Kelly) Barber of Camden, South Carolina, Gregory “Scott” Carroll of New Castle, Tamara Dunda of Albany and Brenda Carroll of Hartford City. Grandchildren: Nathaniel (Mandee) Carroll and Danielle Carroll; Kim (Brad) Justus, Brian and Damon Carroll; Justin and Lea Nichole Carroll; James Carroll and Kaitlyn (Alec) Smith; Natasha, Andrea, Alicia and Nathan Barber; Cole and Sara Carroll; Stranton Mullins, Jordan Carroll, Kayla (Jason) Chandler and Erika Dunda; Taylor (Mitchel) Lykins and Karina Halberstadt; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Janet Carroll and Sheila Carroll and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by brothers Cecil, James, Russell, Charles, Rex and Lynn, sisters: Ruth Handley Rambo, Imogene Foster, Mary Ann Carroll, Sandi Gaskin and LaWanda Anderson, granddaughter Brooke Ann Carroll, mother of his children Janette Zimmerman-Carroll, son-in-law Scott McEldowney, brothers-in-law: Robert Foster, Clayton Handley, Dean ”Chic” Anderson and Daniel Rambo; sisters-in-law Elda, Louise, Barbara, and Erma

He enjoyed a family of 10, having raised eight children in the Desoto area. 

Ed dedicated 38 years of employment in communications as a telegraph maintainer on the Norfolk and Southern Railroad (formerly N&W and Nickel Plate Railroad) before retiring and moving to Bradenton, Florida for 25 years.   

Always active in contributing to his community, he assisted in building De Soto Park for enjoyment of the local children, served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout troop leader and was President of the girls’ softball and boys’ baseball leagues while also coaching.  In addition, he was a founding member of Spectrum Cable, Inc., ultimately providing cable television access to residents of four counties.

His memberships included Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.

An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching IU basketball, LA Dodgers and Chicago Cubs baseball.

Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, he got a kick out of watching his daughters play practical jokes on each other, which he usually instigated. He also enjoyed gardening, butchering, bowling, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Each evening, he ended his day by eating a bowl of ice cream.  

Rites are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday September 20, 2025 at Meacham Funeral Service 648 W. State Street in Albany, IN. Burial, with military funeral honors, will follow at the Elm Ridge Memorial Park in Muncie, IN.

Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
