OBITUARY
Carl D. Johnson, 76, of rural Wapakoneta, OH died 8:45 p.m. Friday May 31, 2024 at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1947 in Lima, OH to Carl Ditmore and Mary Isabel (Doseck) Johnson.
On November 13, 1971 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta, he married Kathleen A. Dawson, who survives.

daughter Kellie (Bill) Fisher of Wapakoneta, OH
daughter Erryn Clark of Wapakoneta, OH
grandchildren: Ty (Heather) Etgen, Joel Etgen, Bayleigh (Brandon) Dirksen, Brendhan (Mary Richardson) Clark, Amber King
great-grandchildren: Cash Etgen, Henry Etgen, Delaney Etgen, Brayden Welsh, Hunter Huffman, Henley Dirksen and another baby Dirksen coming soon!

He was a graduate of Wapakoneta High School (Class of 1965).
A veteran of the United States Army, he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.
Carl retired from the Ohio Department of Corrections, having worked as a corrections officer at both ACI and AOCI, both in Lima for many years. In addition, he served on the Wapakoneta Police Department and Auglaize Co.Sheriff’s Department auxiliaries.
He was a life member of VFW Post #8445 and Auglaize Co. Chapter #73 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Carl was recognized as “Officer of the Year” at LCI in 1987 and AOCI in 2006.
Furthermore, he served on the Auglaize Co. Veterans’ Services Commision.
His favorite pastime was taking meticulous care of his yard (he waged a never-ending battle with dandelions). Carl greatly enjoyed his duty with the law enforcement auxiliaries at the county fair, area festivals and sporting events.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday June 6, 2024 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Pastor Gary Bragg will officiate the services. Final resting place will be at the Dayton National Cemetery.
Visitation 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Law enforcement and military funeral honors will be rendered at the funeral home.
