Alfred Armstrong, 88, of Saint Marys, died 3:41 A.M. Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Wayne Hospice, Greenville, Ohio.
He was born March 26, 1933, in Middle Point, Ohio, the son of George and Mildred (Ditto) Armstrong.
He married Mabel “Tootie” Boroff on June 16, 1956, in Mendon, Ohio; she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his children: Christine (Dr. James) O’Neill of Lima; William (Lisa) Armstrong of Mentor, Ohio.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Dr. Brendan O’Neill of Lima; Dr. Kevan O’Neill of Lima; Shannon (Andy) Wannemacher of Lima; Austin (fiance Carly Marrazzo) Armstrong of Columbus; Dylan Armstrong of Providence, Rhode Island; by a great-granddaughter, Cora Wannamacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Al graduated from Mendon-Union High School in 1951, and then served our country in the US Army. He retired from the US Postal Service after 39 loyal years of service.
Faith and family were the cornerstones of Al’s life. He was always very active in the lives of his grandchildren, and they really loved him! He and Tootie recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
He enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Indians and the OSU Buckeyes. He was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Saint Marys, and a life member of American Legion Post 323.
Private family funeral rites will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Tim Benjamin, officiant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
