Velma McCormick, 89, of 432 Columbia Street, St. Marys, died suddenly at 12:14 P.M. Friday, May 11, 2018, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 13, 1929, in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Pearl (Miller) Shook.
She married Donald McCormick on February 28, 1948, in Robinson, Illinois; he preceded her in death in 1981.
She is survived by her children: Donnie (Lucreta) McCormick of St. Marys; Carolyn (George) Gay of St. Marys; Marilyn (Terry) Slone of St. Marys; by her five grandchildren: Daniel McCormick; Durand McCormick; John Gay; April Colwell; Michael Slone. She is survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers: Raymond Shook of Greenup, Illinois; Howard Shook of Plainview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; by a daughter, Sally Jane McCormick; by a granddaughter, Dawn Marie; by one sister and five brothers.
Velma attended school in Robinson, Illinois. She retired from the former St. Marys Cotton Mill, and was also a homemaker. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, taking care of her dogs, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, Pastor Bob Sweeney, officiant. Private family burial rites will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery.
