M. Jane Stewart

M. Jane Stewart,101, of St. Marys, OH died 7:30 p.m Saturday August 10, 2019 at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, OH.

She was born April 8, 1918 in Bluffton, IN to Frederick and Bessie C. (Brown) Clark.

On August 21, 1948 in Ft. Wayne, IN she married William J. Stewart, who died July 12, 1999.

Survivors include: daughter Karen (Steve) Hunter of Celina, OH

                             grandson Steven Tyler Hunter of Toledo, OH

                             granddaughter Dr. Ellen Hunter and her husband Arron Adams of St. Marys, OH

                             great-grandchildren: Ashley Hunter, Sophia Hunter, Cameron Eaton, William Adams, Henry Adams

                              nephews

Preceded in death by: parents Frederick and Bessie Clark; husband William Stewart; infant daughter Linda Stewart; sister Helen Clark-Singer; brother Frederick D. Clark

She was a graduate of Ft. Wayne Southside High School (Class of 1936) and Ft. Wayne School of Art, where she studied with the famed designer, Bill Blass.

During World War II, she contributed to the patriotic effort as she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” in a manufacturing plant.

She was a homemaker and worked at the former Gill’s Gifts in downtown St. Marys. 

Mrs. Stewart volunteered as one of the original Welcome Wagon Ladies for St. Marys and volunteered many hours for the Joint Twp. District Memorial Hospital auxiliary and American Red Cross.

She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Progress Club and Mothers’ Study Club and the St. Marys Sister Cities Committee, all in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastimes included ballroom dancing, golfing, bowling, fishing, drinking coffee and playing the game of Bridge.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday August 16, 2019 at the Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street Chapel, in St. Marys, with the Rev. Tim Benjamin, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton, IN.

Visitation 4 - 7 p.m. Thursday at the Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street Chapel in St. Marys, and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either Grace UMC Community Dinner Fund or the Arts Place in St. Marys.
