“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

He graduated from Celina Senior High School in 1987, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business and a master’s degreein Hospitality from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Jeff worked in hospitality his entire life, having started out working the front desk at small hotels, and eventually working his way up to General Manager at large 4 and 5-star business hotels in major metropolitan areas throughout the United States, including Houston, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, St. Louis, Winston Salem, NC, Cleveland, and Columbus, OH.  Jeff most recently worked for First Hospitality Group (based in Rosemont, Illinois) as the General Manager at the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel. He worked closely with the owners of the hotel and the City of Toledo to complete renovations to thehotel, as well as the construction of the very popular rooftop restaurant the Brim House that overlooks the City of Toledo and the Maumee River.  Jeff even had a Rueben sandwich named in his honor at the restaurant.  Jeff was also very active in his community, never saying “no” to working with city officials, charitable organizations, and just about anybody else!, to make his community a better place to live. Jeff had a huge heart, would do anything for anybody at any time, preferred conciliation over conflict, and was resolute and optimistic in the face of the worst kinds of adversity.  Jeff was a man among men.

“When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He marks, not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.” -- Grantland Rice

Jeff was also an avid sports fan, playing golf at every opportunity, and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns football teams.  At his brother Jamie’s insistence, he even became a fan of the 2019 Vanderbilt University National Championship baseball team.  He alsocoached and recorded statistics for his son Jack in many of hisLittle League baseball and football games, and cheered him on at all of his swim meets. After “borrowing” his brother’s sports photography camera and lenses, Jeff became the de facto photographer for Jack’s sports teams, capturing many wonderful moments for the whole team.  Jeff also shared a love of movies with Nick and was a very proud parent when Nick was accepted into Film Studies at Bowling Green.

A mass will be held Tuesday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, Ohio.  After the mass friends and family are invited to celebrate Jeff’s life and memories at Marc Hassan and Chris Chamber’s home at 1901 Mockingbird Lane, Celina, Ohio. All are invited to share stories and remembrances of the joy Jeff brought to their lives during this time of fellowship with the Hassan family.
