OBITUARY

Ted L. Hasis, 86, of St. Marys, OH , died at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 9, 2024 in hospice care at JTDM Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born July 30, 1937 in Celina, OH, to Edwin and Ruth (Kruger) Hasis, who preceded him in death.

On June 20, 1959 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, he married his high school sweetheart Sandra L. Koehl, who survives.

Also survived by: daughter Teresa (Mark Mongine) Hasis of St. Marys, OH

                            daughter Kris (Steve) Schmitmeyer of St. Marys, OH

                            daughter Shelly (Doug) Wilker of St. Marys, OH

                            6 grandchildren: Jacquelyn (Todd) Anderson, Ashley (Lee) Schwieterman, Joe (Ricki) Wilker, Nick (Michelle) Wilker, Michael (Katie) Schmitmeyer, Jill (Austin Boley) Schmitmeyer

                            11 great-grandchildren: Alexis Schwieterman, Isabella Schwieterman, Andrew Schwieterman, Elliot Schwieterman, August Schwieterman, Benjamin Anderson, Olivia Anderson, Owen Wilker, Charlie Ann Wilker, Connor Wilker, Elsie Schmitmeyer

                             4 additional great-grandchildren are due this summer!

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Janet Koehl, brother-in-law Jeff (Dee) Koehl, nieces and nephews Susan Koehl, Greg Koehl, Justin (Reshma) Cline, Sarah (Kyle) Sotello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Paul and Estella Koehl, and brother-in-law, Jerry Koehl.

He was a graduate of the Memorial High School class of 1955. In 1959, he obtained a Business Administration degree from Bluffton University.  He later obtained an education degree from Ohio Northern University.

Ted began his teaching career in Continental, Ohio, as a high school business teacher.  He then taught and coached 7th and 8th grade at Neptune School.  He finished his career in education teaching sixth grade for St. Marys City Schools, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie #767 and Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association.

A gifted athlete, he played basketball and baseball in high school and college. While growing up spending time on his grandparents' farms he developed a lifelong love for horses. Ted was a harness horse trainer and driver for more than 60 years, racing at numerous fairs and racetracks.   Other favorite pastimes included reading, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles and building  jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid Roughrider, OSU, UD, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan.  Above all, he was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 16, 2024 at the Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home 314 W. High Street in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation 3 - 7 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to: Grand Lake Hospice or Friends of the St Marys Theatre and Grand Opera House.
