William P. Witt, Sr., 85, recently of 7713 State Route 219, Celina, Ohio, and formerly of Dayton, Ohio passed away Monday July 10, 2017 at Briarwood Village Nursing Home in Coldwater Ohio.

William was born July 20, 1931 in Irvine, Kentucky to Thomas W. and Fannie B. (Thomas) Witt.

On June 23, 1951 he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Deike, and they shared the next 50 years of their lives together, until her passing in 2001. Together they raised four children; three daughters and a son.

Surviving William are his three daughters: Cathy (Richard) Hirschfeld, St. Marys, Ohio; Diane (Delynn) Burgett, Dayton, Ohio; and Patricia (Dan) Reif, Dayton, Ohio.  William is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, William was preceded in death by his only son, William P. Witt, Jr., who passed in January of 2017, and by one great-grandson, Brayden Alan Sands, in October 2003.

William was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Thomas Witt, Harold Witt, Harry (Glen) Witt, Virginia Wyland, Olive Terrell, and Mary Huffman.

Following his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, William was known for his work as a top-notch tool and die maker. William worked at the A.F. Leis  Company in Vandalia prior to becoming the Owner-Operator of his own tool and die business, Witt Machine and Tool, in Dayton, Ohio.

William loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, travelling to country concerts, gardening, garage sales, and as a younger man, playing basketball. A devoted family man, William loved spending time with his wife most of all. In later years he enjoyed visiting with family and playing games, especially Yahtzee.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street Chapel, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at the New Carlisle Church of the Brethren, 219 N. Main St., New Carlisle, Ohio, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Pastor Andrew Wright will officiate the services with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
