Lowell J. Roettger, 98, of 205 Bielefeld Street, New Knoxville, and formerly of Saint Marys, died Friday, April 14, 2017, in New Knoxville.

He was born May 30, 1918, in New Bremen, the son of Lawrence and Alvina (Hegemier) Roettger.

He married Rose Mary Wieser on June 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1979.

He married Wanda Stegeman in 1988, and she preceded him in death in 2006.

 

He is survived by his two children: Joan Roettger of Columbus, Ohio; John Roettger of New Knoxville. He is survived by a grandson, Andrew (Lisa) Roettger of New Knoxville, and by four great-grandchildren: Jett, Maggie, Lena and Levi Roettger.

 

Mr. Roettger was preceded in death by his parents; by both wives and by two sisters, Bernice and Leota.

 

Lowell was a graduate of New Bremen High School and the Ft. Wayne Business College. He retired after many years as the manager of Auglaize County Farm Bureau (Landmark).

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII.

 

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with his great-grandchildren , and refinishing furniture. He was a member of FOE 767 and American Legion Post 323. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, the Reverend Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Saint Marys.


Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys.
