Herman J. Dietz, 86, of 1545 Knoxville Road, St. Marys, Ohio, died 6:10 P.M. Friday, June 2, 2017, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.

He was born November 8, 1930, in St. Marys, the son of of Louis and Elizabeth (Yahl) Dietz.

He married Eileen Poeppelman of November 8, 1952, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, and she survives at Otterbein St. Marys.

He is survived by his children: Ruth (John) Campbell of New Bremen; James (Cindy) Dietz of Neva, Minnesota; Louis (Vicki) Dietz of St. Marys; Steven (Susan) Dietz of Logan, Ohio; Rosemary (Chip) Felver of Celina; Thomas (Laura) Dietz of St. Jacob, Illinois; Daniel (Kylle) Dietz of Hilliard, Ohio.

He is survived by his siblings: Anna Marie Steinke of St. Marys; Leonard (Velma) Dietz of New Bremen; Lawrence (Karen) Dietz of Indian Lake. He is survived by a half-brother, Allen (Connie) Dietz of Celina.

He is survived by 17 grandchildren and by 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his siblings Blanche Poeppelman; Margaret Overman, Theresa Case and Leo Dietz; by a granddaughter, Suzanne Campbell.

Herman was a 1949 graduate of Saint. Marys Memorial High School. He went to work at Goodyear St. Marys when he was 18, and retired 40 years later. He enjoyed fishing, turtle trapping, watching the OSU Buckeyes, the Reds and the Roughriders. He had a strong Roman Catholic faith, and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also member of FOE 767, St. Marys.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, the Reverend Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.

Friends may call from 2-6 P.M. Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, where memorial gifts may be given to either Friends of Holy Rosary School, or Otterbein St. Marys Benevolent Fund.
