Thomas W. Ziegler, Sr, 87, a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, Saint Marys, Ohio, and formerly of Dayton and Piqua, Ohio, died 12:24 A.M. Thursday, September 19, 2010, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys. He had lived in Dayton for many years and then moved to 5485 Spring Creek-Stringtown Road in Piqua.

He was born September 3, 1922, in Dayton, the son of Robert and Mildred (Shardelow) Ziegler.

He married Karolyn Koehler on November 8, 1945; she preceded him in death on February 7, 2008.

He is survived by his two children: Thomas (Kathi) Ziegler, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Joyce (Joel) Burke of Saint Marys; by four grandchildren: Joel (Rebekah) Burke of Grand Rapids, Mich; Karolyn (Andy) Lehman of Austin, Tx; Amy (Matthew) Gallo of Mechanicsburg, Pa; Nell (Raymond) Hartzel of Mechanicsburg, Pa; by two great-grandchildren: Zander Galo and Ella Hartzel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Robert Ziegler.

Mr. Ziegler was a 1940 graduate of Dayton Fairview High School. He was a retired tool and die maker. He loved muzzle loader rifles and woodworking. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Shrine, Valley of Dayton.

Graveside memorial rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Shiloh Park Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
