The Rev. John C. Wine, 88, of 237 Candlewood Place in St.Marys, OH died 12:58 p.m. Thursday November 22, 2007 at the Otterbein Retirement Community, near Grand Lake St.Marys.
He was born October 7, 1919 in Losantville, IN to Oatus & Nellie (Oxley) Wine.
On June1, 1948, in Urbana, OH, he married Ruth E. Watson, who preceded him in death September 27, 2007.

¨ Son, The Rev. Dale (Linda) Wine of Cincinnati, OH
¨ Son Dr. Douglas (Clarinda) Wine of St.Marys, OH
¨ 10 grandchildren: Dr. Jeffery (Joy) Wine, Janelle (Brad) Thompson, Danae (Josh) Means, Darin Wine, Derek Wine, Dustin Wine, Nate Wine, Jalyn Wine, Jordan Wine, Jillian Wine
¨ 3 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Callie & Carly Means
¨ Sister, Mary Driskell of Marion, IN
He was preceded in death by his parents Otis & Nellie Wine; wife, Ruth Wine; 5 brothers: Walter, Pete, Howard, Bob & Earl Wine; 2 sisters: Ruth Laskey & Helen Wigmore.
He was a 1937 graduate of the Winchester, IN High School and 1948 graduate of Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, IL.
A veteran of the US Army, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart for his service during World War II.
The Rev. Wine was involved in helping numerous people and churches his entire adult life. He served as minister at the Nazarene Churches in Portland, IN, Hartford City, In, Auburn, IN, and Anderson, IN. He served as minister of visitation at the First Church of the Nazarene and the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, both in St.Marys, OH. Always ready to help others in need, he served in various capacities at a total of fifteen churches in the community of St.Marys, OH.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in St.Marys, past president of the ministerial association in Anderson, IN, district secretary of the Northeast District of the Church of the Nazarene in the State of Indiana, and was a founding board member of the Agape Ministries, which serves the needy in the St.Marys area.
He also retired as the Director the Auglaize Co. Dept. of Human Services in Wapakoneta, OH.
An avid sports fan, he was a faithful supporter of the St.Marys Roughriders, the Cincinnati Reds, The OSU Buckeyes and the Indiana University basketball program.
Most of all, he was a loving and compassionate father and grandfather who always took time to listen. He led his family by example, setting high standards of character for them to emulate in their own lives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 390 Indiana Ave., St.Marys, OH, with the Rev. Daniel Wine and Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial, with full graveside military rites, will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys..
Visitation will be held Sunday, Novembe4 25, 2007 at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH from 2 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to: Agape Ministries, Gideons International, or the First Church of the Nazarene.
