Rhoda Becker Wierwille, 86, of 06603 Southland Road, New Knoxville, Ohio, died 9:35 A.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the Valley Nursing Home in Saint Marys.
She was born March 8, 1921, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Roy and
Mamie (Enck) Becker.
She married Reuben A. Wierwille on June 29, 1963; he preceded her in death in March of 1989.
She is survived by her two step-children: Bob Ed (Marsha) Wierwille of New Knoxville; Annely Skapura of New Knoxville; by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; by two sisters: Ruth Kirk of Medford, Oregon; Jane Mickey of Durham, North Carolina; by two brothers: Donald (Suzanne) Becker of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire; Jerry (Ira) Becker of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Kenneth Becker; by a son-in-law, Phil Skapura.
She graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where she earned a music major in piano. Rhoda Becker was hired by The Way Ministry of New Knoxville, Ohio, in 1947 following her graduation from Moody and became the first salaried employee of The Way. She served as minister of music and was the personal secretary of the Founding President of The Way, Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille.
The minister of music for many years, Rhoda Becker directed the music for the Chimes Hour Youth Caravan radio program. She arranged their programs, directed the choir, and also trained the vocalists and instrumentalists. Knowing hundreds of hymns and gospel songs from memory, she was the piano accompanist for the congregational singing in the ministry for over thirty-seven years.
A service of recognition will be held and burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville. Services are under the care of Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Ohio.
