Gertrude “Floy” Whetstone, 80, formerly of 03288 Easterly Road in St.Marys, OH died 8:25 a.m. Tuesday July 7, 2009 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
She was born December 5, 1928 in Mendon, OH to Charles & Bertha (Werts) Snyder.
On September 3, 1949, she married Glen E. Whetstone, who died December 8, 2006.
Survivors include:
daughter, Pamela Kay Whetstone of Northwood, OH
daughter, Mitchi Lee Collette of Elmore, OH
grandson, Michael (Danielle) Brown of Perrysburg, OH
great-grandson, Blayne Brown of Perrysburg, OH
sister, Kathryn (Glenn) Harner of Mendon, OH
brother, Von Dean (Esther) Snyder of Celina, OH
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Carl Snyder, step-siblings: Eldon Snyder, Evelyn McCain, Marie Bennett, Dorothy Love, William Springer
She was a 1946 graduate of the Mendon High School.
She worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and then retired after 19 years as a cook for the East Elementary School, both in St.Marys.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta.
She was the unofficial mother to all the players of The Toledo Rain women’s professional football team. She had served as a 4-H advisor for many years and enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting and making crafts. An avid sports fan, she also was an ardent supporter of The OSU Buckeyes, Detroit Redwings and Cincinnati Reds.
Services are scheduled 11:00 a.m. Friday July 10, 2009 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road in St.Marys, with the Rev. Shawn Morris, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, in St.Marys.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
