Thomas “Tub” Vogan, 88, of 406 South Wayne Street, Saint Marys, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 20, 1922, in Saint Marys, the son of Thomas Tim and Olga (Kiser) Vogan.
He married Betty Arnold on July 17, 1964 and she preceded him in death on September 28, 2008.
He is survived by his two sons: Nick (Debra) Hubble of Magnolia, Texas; Tim (Sue) Vogan of LaGrange, North Carolina; by 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; by a brother, James (Dottie) Vogan of Ohio City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Adam “Buster” Vogan and Jake Vogan; by two-half brothers, Pat Thomas and Bill Thomas; by a sister, Mary Ann Vogan, who died in infancy.
Tub was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy beach in Northern France. He earned the Bronze Star for his service to this nation.
Tub was a master craftsman carpenter, having retired from Saint Marys Lumber Company. He worked for many area contractors in the area, including Kessler Builders. He was well known for his antique tool restoration skills; he also collected die-cast cars.
He was a life member of VFW Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323, both in Saint Marys.
Graveside funeral rites will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Reverend Bill Maki, officiant, at Elm Grove Cemetery, where members of VFW 9289 and American Legion Post 323 will conduct military burial honors.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to Auglaize County Cancer Association.
