Alice E. Tomlinson, 85, of 96 Causeway Drive, Saint Marys, Ohio, died 5:42 P.M. Sunday, January 10, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Saint Marys, following an eleven year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She and her husband had formerly lived in Lima.
She was born November 26, 1924, in Marion County, West Virginia, the daughter of John and Helen (Gould) Gribbin.
She married Eugene “Gene” Tomlinson on August 3, 1956; he survives at the residence.
She is also survived by her two sons: Dr. Timothy (Lori) Tomlinson of Twin Falls, Idaho; Thomas (Christine) Tomlinson of Cridersville; by four grandchildren: Bethany (Andrew) Lhamon; Andrea Tomlinson; Joel Tomlinson; Ashley Tomlison; by two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Josie Lhamon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings: Catherine Rapsawick; Mary Ice; John Gribbin and Albert Gribbin.
Alice graduated from the DeSales Heights Academy in Parkersburg, West Virginia,
class of 1943; she graduated with a liberal arts degree in 1947 from the
University of West Virgina and she also attended Fairmont State College in
Fairmont, West Virginia.
She had taught high school in Baltimore, Maryland and had also served as activities director and swimming instructor of the YWCA in Springfield, Ohio. While in her twenties, she was hospitalized for five years while suffering from tuberculosis.
Alice was the Secretary-Treasurer and co-owner of Tomlinson Automotive Company in Saint Marys. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Father James Seibert, celebrant. Burial will be held Monday, January 18, 2010, at Lima Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. Friday, January 15, 2010, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, where memorial donations may be directed to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
