Fred G. Swartz

Fred G. Swartz, 77, of 11103 State Route 364, Saint Marys, died 12:35 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at his residence.

 

He was born April 5, 1934 in Saint Marys, the son of Sam and Cynthia (Davis) Swartz.
 

He married Janet Quellhorst on November 24, 1954 and she survives at the residence.

 

He is survived by his two sons: Gary (Jennifer) Swartz of Saint Marys; Sam (Angie Manarolla) Swartz of Dublin, Ohio; by six grandchildren: Samantha Swartz; Jordyn Swartz; Dillon Swartz; Griffin Swartz; Marcus Manarolla; Lucas Manarolla; by one great-grandson, Brayden Swartz’ by his siblings: Charles (Sue Ellen) Swartz of Saint Marys; Sam Swartz of Saint Marys; Melody Thrush of Saint John’s, Ohio.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law: Charles Siferd, Glen Thrush and Edward Quellhorst; by a daughter-in-law, Becky Swartz; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Swartz.
 

Fred was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.

He retired from Midwest Electric Cooperative in Saint Marys, where he was Controller/Office Manager. He also was the owner of Fred’s Income Tax Service in Saint Marys.

He was an excellent woodworker and furniture maker; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting and skeet; he was a life member of  Eagles Lodge 767 in Saint Marys. He  loved collecting  WWI and WWII memorabilia and later donated his collection to the Auglaize County Historical Museum. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ.

 

Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, the Reverend Dr. Ed Bray, officiant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, where memorial donations may  be directed  to either Saint Paul’s United of Christ Endownment Fund or Grand Lake Hospice.
