Carlos R. Spitler, 35, of 1632 Coventry Road, Dayton, and formerly of Saint Marys, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Windy Point in Mercer County, Ohio, of an apparent suicide.

He was born August 12, 1975, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the son of Ronald and Carmelita (DaSilvia) Spitler. They survive in Saint Marys.

He is also survived by his two beloved children: a son, Derrick Spitler of Celina and a daughter, Emerson Spitler of Celina; by a brother, Jason Spitler of Dayton; by two half-sisters: Melody (Robert) Daugherty of Arcanum, Ohio; Melanie Strong of New Madison, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Donnie Tennery.

Carlos was a graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School in Saint Marys, where he was a proud member of the state championship football teams of 1990, 92 and 93. He had formerly been employed at Mercer Tool Company but was starting a new career path as a nurse. He was currently attending Miami Valley Career Training Center in Dayton. He loved all kinds of sports, liked to fish and was a huge fan of the OSU Buckeyes. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards. He will be remembered for the great love he had for his two children.

He was Roman Catholic by faith.

Funeral rites will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, Pastor Bob Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow at Mote Cemetery near Pitsburg, Ohio.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, where memorial donations may be directed to a college fund for Carlos’ children.
