Marie W. Smith, 82, of 814 Hackney Street, Saint Marys, Ohio, and formerly of Shawnee, Oklahoma, died 3:20 A.M. Monday, March 23, 2009, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys. She had moved from Shawnee to Saint Marys in 2006.

She was born August 20, 1926, in Duncan, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hubert and Dillie Mae (Wells) Yates.

She married James Smith on December 15, 1953; he preceded her in death on August 4, 2005.

She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia (Clayton) Lauth of Mendon, Ohio; by a sister, Joyce Cottrell of Rising Star, Texas; by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Spencer Wayne Lauth; by two brothers, Leon and Howard Yates; by one sister, Bernice Jackson.

Marie had been a homemaker. She was Methodist, by faith.

Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Ohio, The Reverend Bill Maki, officiant. Private family burial rites will be held at a later date.

Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
