Joseph E. Silvers, 87, of 1114 Robin Road, St.Marys, OH died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Otterbein Retirement Center, St.Marys, OH. 

Joe was born May 11,1922 in St.Marys,OH, the son of Alfred E. and Bridget M. (Walsh) Silvers. 

He married Marjorie K. Dicke on February 5,1948 and she survives at the residence. 

He is also survived by:

¨ Son, Joseph (Eileen) Silvers, Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD

¨ Son, Steve Silvers of Columbus, OH

¨ Son, Jeff (Tanya) Silvers of Friendsville, PA

¨ 3 grandchildren:  Chris, Tara and Leif Silvers

¨ 4 great-grandchildren: Garrett, Shannon, Taylor and Tyler Silvers

¨ Numerous great nieces and nephews 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, a daughter-in-law, a niece and a nephew. 

Joe was a 1940 graduate of St.Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served during WWII and receiving a Purple Heart.  He was retired from Goodyear after 34 years of service.  He enjoyed scouting and was a long time troop leader for Boy Scout Troops in St.Marys.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #323 and the Eagles Lodge in St.Marys, the 6th Marine Division Association, and the 22nd Marine Regiment Association.  He appreciated the work of the Robert F.Griner VFW Post.  He enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.  He greatly loved his family and was supportive of their endeavors.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 9:30a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH with the Rev. Ed Bray officiating.  Private family burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15,2009 at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH from 4 to 7 p.m., with American Legion services to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts, the St.Marys Public Library or the Otterbein Benevolent Fund.
