Leland H. “Bill” Shelby, 87, of 306 Columbia Street, St.Marys, OH, died 12:17 P.M. Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Valley Nursing Home in St.Marys, OH. 

He was born July 7, 1921, in St.Marys, OH, the son of Leonard and Margaret (Kohler) Shelby. 

He married Marjorie Wright on September 6, 1941; she survives at the residence. 

He is survived by:

¨ Son, Jerry (Rita) Shelby of Salisbury, NC

¨ Son, Larry (Ronda) Shelby of St.Marys, OH

¨ Son, Lynn (Brenda) Shelby of Roseburg, OR

¨ Son, William (Barbara) Shelby of Sunbury, OH

¨ 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren 

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Evelyn Shelby and Julia Schwarch. 

Bill had worked as a police officer in St.Marys. While a police officer, he was the co-founder of the St.Marys Junior Rifle Club, where he taught St.Marys youth markmanship and the safe handling of firearms. He worked as a truck driver for the St.Marys Trucking Company and he also did maintenance work for the St.Marys City School.   

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, shooting and riding motorcycles. He was a member of FOE 767 in St.Marys, Teamsters Local 908 in Lima; Western Ohio Fish and Game Club and The National Rifle Association. 

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in St. Marys.

Funeral rites will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Jim Nuhfer, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial donations may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church
