Aaron H. Schrolucke, 88, of 205 South Saint Marys Street, New Knoxville, Ohio, died 8:50 P.M. Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1920, in New Knoxville, the son of Harry and Bertha (Klute) Schrolucke.
He married Kathryn Stump on May 28, 1955; she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his three children: Jeffrey (Stephanie) Schrolucke of Ladson, South Carolina; Penny (John) Pfenning of New Knoxville; Steven Schrolucke of New Knoxville; by four grandchildren: Ross Schrolucke; Alexandria Schrolucke; Chris (Sarah) Pfenning; Katie Pfenning; by one great-grandchild: Ariyah Pfenning; by one brother, Charles (Gwen) Schrolucke of Brookville, Ohio; by four sisters: Dorothy Prueter of New Knoxville; Grace Young of Saint Marys; Mary (Bill) Schmehl of Saint Marys; Jan (Paul) Schumacher of New Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Aaron had been a truck driver at the former Beatrice Foods Company in New Bremen; he had later worked at Piehl Bros. Masonry and he retired from Hoge Lumber Company. He was a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where he had served in the choir for many years and attended the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. He had been a square dance caller for more than 50 years in the area; he was a great sports fan, cheering on the New Knoxville Rangers, OSU Buckeyes, Dayton Flyers and the Reds. He was a member of the Ranger Athletic Boosters and loved attending girls volleyball and basketball games. He had been a Boy Scout leader in past years. He had served on the Board of Trustees of the New Bremen Senior Citizens and he enjoyed playing cards. He loved to travel and was a familiar face at the Main Street Station Restaurant in New Knoxville, where he went for coffee each morning.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, the Very Reverend David Williams, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-7:30 Wednesday in the Heritage Room of the First United Church of Christ, where memorial donations may be directed to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the Church. Services are in the care of the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, 200 West Spring Street, New Knoxville.
