Norman Schnelle, 93, of 401 West South Street, New Knoxville, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Gardens of Wapakoneta.
He was born February 9, 1916, in New Knoxville, the son of Henry and Edna (Eschmeyer) Schnelle.
He married Olga Vohs on June 9, 1942; she preceded him in death on March 2, 2007.
He is survived by one brother, Kermit Schnelle of Waynesfield; by six nieces: Janice Frederick of Rockford, Ohio; Jenine Fanning of Celina; Tanya Newland of Columbus, Ohio; Neva Rowen of Saint Marys; Michele Jacob of Powell, Ohio; Denise Stephens of Lima; Lisa Wilkes of Bradenton, Florida; by a nephew, Duane Schnelle of New Bremen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters: Zippora Aufderhaar and Alfreda Vohs; by two brothers: Virgil and Myron Schnelle; by a sister-in-law, Louanna Schnelle.
He was a 1936 graduate of New Knoxville High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII; he fought in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of The Bulge.
He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Saint Marys. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville; the New Knoxville Gun Club; American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville. He enjoyed trapshooting and playing poker.
