John W. Schneider, 74, 307 E. Spring St., New Knoxville, OH died 12:15 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007 at St.Rita’s Hospital Triumph Health Care Unit, Lima, Ohio

He was born December 16, 1932 in New Knoxville, OH, the son of Emil and Edna (Duhme) Schneider.

He married Phyllis Schrolucke on October 15, 1955; she survives at the residence.

He is survived by:

· Son, Michael Schneider, New Knoxville, OH

· Son, Mark Schneider, Wapakoneta, OH

· Daughter, Julia (James) Hitch, Hilliard, OH

· Son, Matthew (Brenda) Schneider, New Knoxville, OH

John was a 1950 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a 1952 graduate of Northwestern Business College.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was the retired comptroller of Hoge Lumber Company, New Knoxville, OH.

John was a member of American Legion Post #444; President of Pilger Ruhe Cemetery Board; President of Auglaize County Library Board; President of New Knoxville Civic Assn; President of Auglaize Industries; and New Knoxville Kiwanis.  He was an active member of the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, where he had served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, secretary and president of the congregation.

John enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling to Outer Banks, N.C. and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29,2007 at the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, OH, the Rev. Dr. David Williams, celebrant.  Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Heritage Room of the church, where memorial donations may be directed to the Auglaize County Group Home.
