Vernon E. Raymond, Jr., 61, of 127 Marbello Court, St.Marys, OH, died 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July l, 2009 at the Toledo Hospital from injuries sustained in a car-bicycle accident on June 23, 2009.  Mr. Raymond was participating in the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure and crashed near Bowling Green, OH. 

He was born July 12, 1947 in Celina, OH, the son of Vernon and Dorothy (Williams) Raymond, Sr. 

He married Kathy Heaps on July 8, 1972 and she survives at the residence.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a nephew, Charles Greenawalt, Jr. 

Vernon was a 1966 graduate of St.Marys Memorial High School.  He also graduated from Wright State University.  He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Viet Nam era in Korea. 

He was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St.Marys, where he had been an engineer. 

Vernon loved athletics, especially tennis, which he played at Breakaway Rec Plex in Celina.  He also loved cycling, hiking and mountain climbing.  He had coached Little

League baseball and YMCA basketball.  He was a member of the Memorial High School Alumni Association and also the Wright State Alumni Association.  He belonged to Idlewild Men’s Club in St.Marys. 

He was a member of St.Paul’s United Church of Christ in St.Marys, OH.

Funeral rites will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at the St.Paul's United Church of Christ in St.Marys, OH, the Very Rev. Dr. David Williams, officiant.  Euglogies will be delivered by Floyd Keith and Mike Lhaman.  Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. 

Friends may call from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH, where memorial donations may be directed to either the Charles Greenawalt Scholarship Fund or St.Paul's United Church of Christ.  Friends may also call from 9:30 til 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Church.
