John “Jack” Prendergast, 88, of 1005 Linden Avenue, Saint Marys, died 8:15 P.M. Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Saint Marys.

Jack was born March 31, 1922, in Cincinnati, the son of John and Ester (Lumley) Prendergast.

He married Helen Cromwell on June 11, 1949 and she survives at the residence.

He is also survived by his two daughters: Joan (Jim) Frey of Saint Marys; Jane (Dennis) Prendergast Meyer of Cincinnati; by one grandson, Thomas Frey of Saint Marys; by a sister, Jean Neidhart of Cincinnati.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant daughter, Marcia.

Jack was a graduate of the Ohio Mechanics Institute in Cincinnati. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII as an Army topographer. He retired from Minster Machine Company where he had been a mechanical engineer. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church; he was an amateur radio enthusiast; enjoyed photography and music.

Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 10, 2010, at the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, the Reverend Jon Kraner, officiant. Burial with military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Friday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, Ohio, where memorial donations may be made to either Grand Lake Hospice or the childrens’ department of the Saint Marys Community Public Library.
