Jack David Powell, 83, of 25843 McPherson Lane, Astor, Florida, and formerly of Saint Marys, died 4:13 A.M. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Saint Marys Living Center.

He was born May 17, 1927, in Montgomery County, Ohio, the son of Olas and Rose (Dood) Powell.

He married Carol Presar on June 30, 1945, in Wabash, Ohio, and she survives.

He is survived by his ten children:

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Olas and Glen Powell; an infant sister by two sons-in-law: Cheldon “Butch” Fetters and Ed Huecker.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, having served during WWII. He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he had been a supervisor in the shipping department. He was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 9289; American Legion Post 323, and Eagles Lodge 767, all in Saint Marys. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a staunch Republican and was an avid reader.

Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, Pastor Tom Schwind, officiant. Burial, with military honors by VFW Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, where memorial donations may be directed to the Astor Baptist Church Building Fund.
