Norman E. “Andy” Phipps, 81, of 912 Edwards Street in St. Marys, OH died 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 18, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH following a sudden illness.

 

He was born April 14, 1929 in Hoytville, OH to J. Anderson and Joyce (Rader) Phipps.

 

On November 24, 1952 he married Barbara Lea Cook, who died April 2, 2000.

 

Survivors include: son David (Jennifer) Phipps  of St. Marys, OH

                               son Dean (Barbara) Phipps  of New Bremen, OH

                               daughter Nan (Tim) Flohre  of Huber Heights, OH

                               9 grandchildren    4 great-grandchildren

                               brother Donald Phipps  of Florida

                               close cousin Alice Mender  of Toledo, OH

                               special friend and companion Martha Nagel  of St. Marys, OH

 

He was preceded in death by: parents, wife, sister Betty Doty

 

He was a 1947 graduate of Jackson Twp. High School in Hoytville, OH.

 

He was a retired production employee from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys.

 

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Confllict.

 

He was a member and past president of Eagles Lodge Aerie # 767 in St. Marys, past state deputy for Ohio district # 22 of Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a life member of VFW Post # 9289 and American Legion Post # 323, both in St. Marys.

 

He served as a coach for the youth baseball league in St. Marys for many years.

 

His favorite pastimes included golfing, bowling, boating on his pontoon and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Funeral rites for Mr. Phipps are scheduled 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 22, 2010 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating. Burial, with full graveside military honors, will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, in St. Marys.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be held noon until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home on Ohio 703 West.
