J. Philip Pfenning, 81, of 241 North Spruce Street, St.Marys, Ohio, died 12:45 A.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Joint Township Hospital, St.Marys, OH.  

He was born August 30, 1926, in St.Marys, the son of Vincent and Cornelia (Snyder) Pfenning. 

He married Mary Jo Suchland on October 2, 1952; she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by

¨ Son, Thomas (Julie) Pfenning of New Bremen, OH

¨ Daughter, Julie (Doug) Metz of St.Marys, OH

¨ Son, Michael Pfenning of St.Marys, OH

¨ 3 grandchildren: Christopher (Sarah) Pfenning of New Knoxville, OH;  Katie Jo Pfenning of New Knoxville, OH; Mitchell Pfenning of New Bremen, OH 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul Pfenning; a sister, Joan Burke; a granddaughter, Michelle Pfenning and an infant son, Philip Pfenning. 

Phil was a 1945 graduate of St.Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of the Elgin Institute in Chicago and was a Certified Master Watch Maker. He owned and operated Pfenning Jewelry for more than 50 years in St.Marys and was the owner of Phil’s Clock Repair. He was a member of American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289 in Saint Marys. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a woodcarver and loved making crafts of all kinds. He enjoyed walking and riding his bike.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 14,2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 511 E. Spring St., St.Marys, Oh, the Rev. Anthony Cutcher, celebrant.  Burial, with military rites, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Miller-Long Funeral Home, 314 West High St., St.Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to Holy Rosary Church.
