Betty M. Place, 86, of 56 Southmoor Shores Drive in St.Marys, OH died 9:57 p.m. Wednesday June 25, 2008 at the St.Marys Living Center.

She was born February 23, 1922 in St.Marys, OH to Scott J. & Clarabell (Yocum) Miller.

On March 13, 1943, she married Dr. Robert A. Place, who died November 12, 2002.

She was preceded in death by her parents Scott & Clarabell Miller, husband Dr. Robert Place, daughter Jane Place, brothers: Donald & William Miller, sisters: Della Wiswasser, & Bernice Rausch

Mrs. Place was a 1940 graduate of Spencerville, OH High School and was also a graduate of the Ft.Wayne, IN Beauty College.

She had assisted her husband in the operation of his veterinary practice for many years in St.Marys. Also, she operated a pet grooming business and the former Dome Driving Range for golfing practice in St.Marys.

She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge Aerie # 767 auxiliary, VFW Post # 9289 auxiliary, American Legion Post # 323 auxiliary, Lake Improvement Assoc. (all in St.Marys), BPOE # 1170 in Wapakoneta and the Celina Moose Lodge.

She was an accomplished bowler, having been named the Ohio all-events champion in 1958 for the Women’s Bowling Congress. A tremendous supporter of The Ohio State University Buckeyes, she drove herself to the home football games in Columbus until her mid-eighties.

Funeral services are scheduled 1:30 p.m. Sunday June 29, 2008 at the Miller Funeral Home (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St.Marys, with the Rev. Ed Groff, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, in St.Marys.

Visitation 3 - 6 p.m. for family and friends will be held on Saturday at the funeral home on Ohio 703 West.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either Wayne Street UMC building project, Grand Lake hospice program, or Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
