Elsie P. Opperman, of 730 North Spruce Street, St.Marys, OH died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at her residence.
She was born September 11, 1913 in St.Marys, the daughter of Grover and Anne (Hertenstein) Sullivan.
She married Norman Opperman on September 12,1937; he preceded her in death on September 28,2007.
She is survived by:
¨ Daughter, Rebecca Ballenger of St.Marys, OH
¨ Daughter, Joyce (Peter) Perri of Jupiter, FL
¨ Son, (Bruce (Bonnie) Opperman of Elida, OH
¨ 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeff) Johnides of Celina, OH, Jason (Kellee) Ballenger of St.Marys, OH, Amy Nixon of Upper Arlington, OH, Peter (Cari) Perri III of Jupiter, FL, Amanda Opperman of Elida, OH
¨ 5 great-grandchildren: Ali Johnides, Brianne and Kaisey Ballenger, Peter Perri IV and Jaikob Long
¨ Several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Nellie Nevergall and Lennie Montague and by one brother, Earl Sullivan.
Elsie was a 1930 graduate of St.Marys Memorial High School. She was a faithful lifetime member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, which merged with the United Methodist Church and became Grace United Methodist Church in St.Marys. She had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was active in the Women’s Guild of the church. She was a longtime member and trustee of the St.Marys Community Library Board. She was involved for many years with school and community activities in St.Marys. She enjoyed walking and was very friendly. She was a loving and kind mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Ossie” by her family and friends.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH, the Reverands Mary Kay Brown and Jim Nuhfer, officiants. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH where donations may be directed to either the St.Marys Community Library or Grace United Methodist Church.
