Ruth L. Niemeyer, 87, formerly of 104 East Spring Street, New Knoxville, Ohio, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Valley Nursing Home in Saint Marys.

She was born January 9, 1921, in New Knoxville, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Lydia (Elshoff) Niemeyer.

She is survived by one brother, Don (Ruth) Niemeyer of Niemeyer of New Knoxville; by 6 nieces and 7 nephews; by numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Reuben Niemeyer.

Ruth was a 1938 graduate of New Knoxville High School. She retired from the Fifth Third Bank (formerly The People’s Bank) in New Knoxville after 40 years of service.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where she had belonged to the choir. She belonged to the Soroptimist Music Club and the New Knoxville Historical Society. She loved music and spending time with her family. She performed at numerous weddings in the area as a soloist.

Funeral rites for Ruth will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, the Very Reverend David Williams, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Monday in the Heritage Room of the First United Church of Christ, where memorial donations may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home in New Knoxville.
