Mary E. Miller, 90, formerly of 121 Nagel Street in St. Marys, OH died 8:12 p.m. Friday March 11, 2011 at the Laurels of Worthington in Worthington, OH.
She was born February 27, 1921 in St. Marys, OH to Alonzo and Alvina (Anders) Rupert.
In 1940, she married Norman B. Miller, who died August 9, 1977.
She is survived by:
Son, Norman (Jewell) Miller, Jr. of Gahanna, OH
Daughter, Susan (Gilbert “Skip”) DeHart of West Chester, PA
Son, Robert (Lillie) Miller of St. Marys, OH
Son, Ronnie (Sandi) Miller of St. Marys, OH
12 grandchildren
26 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by: parents;, husband; grandson, Justin Miller; brother, Ben Rupert; brother, Irvin Rupert;, brother, Wilbur Rupert; sister, Katherine Tarter; sister, Ruth Dyer.
She was a 1939 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, where she was awarded a scholarship in mathematics.
She was a homemaker and retired seamstress groupleader from Wapakoneta Products in Botkins, OH. She had also worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Luxury Blankets and St. Marys Blanket Co.
She was 50 year plus member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
An accomplished musician, she played bass fiddle in a band along with her husband Norm (who played drums), specializing in songs from the Dixieland and Big Band eras.
She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, who dearly loved both her children and her grandchildren.
Funeral rites for Mrs. Miller are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 16, 2011 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ 201 N. Perry Street in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memory Gardens, near St. Marys.
Visitation 2 – 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio703 West) in St. Marys.
