Kenneth J. Metzger, 05680 Auglaize County Rd 33-A, St.Marys, OH, died 7:15 Tuesday, January 2008,at the Valley Nursing Home in St.Marys, OH. 

He was born June l,1921 in rural Wapakoneta, OH, to Clarence and Caroline (Mosler) Metzger. 

On December 25,1940 he married Treva Brodbeck, who survives. 

He is also survived by:

¨ Daughter, Cheryl (Robert “Buzz”) Howard, St.Marys, OH

¨ Granddaughter, Susan (Doug) Byerly, San Antonio, TX

¨ Granddaughter, Abby (Zach) Dunlap, Raleigh, NC

¨ 2 great-grandchildren: Andrew Thomas and Vivian Faye Byerly 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Metzger; sister, Louetta Morris; grandson, Thomas A. Howard. 

He was a 1939 graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta, OH.  He retired from the Parker-Hannifin Corp. Cylinder Division and had also worked at the former St.Marys Woolen Mill in St.Marys. 

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and had been a leader of the Boy Scouts of America.  He was a gifted tailor, having made clothing for many area people. He was a very resourceful handy-man and inventor. 

Mr. Metzger was an advocate for conservation and took a great interest in trees.

Funeral services are scheduled 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12,2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 210 N. Wayne St., St.Marys, OH, with the Rev. Bill Maki officiating.  Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys, OH.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, High Street Chapel, St.Marys, OH, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
