David F. Metz, 79, of 701 W. North St., St. Marys died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 at 8:07 PM at the Golden – Valley Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Dave was born December 16, 1930 in New Bremen, OH the son of Ernest and Marie (Wehrman) Metz.

He married Dorla Sharlene Graham on April 11, 1959 in St. Marys, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and she preceded him death on October 12, 2006.

He is survived by daughter: Denise (David) Locke, Moorseburg, Tenn.; son, Dana (Renee) Metz, Gilbert, Arizona; grandsons Kyle and Joshua Metz, Glibert, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn (Merle) Schuller, St. Marys and sister-in-law, Kay Graham, Spencerville, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Don Metz and Ned Metz and his sister, Lois Ann Esser.

Dave was a 1948 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during the Korean War. He retired after many years of service as a union electrician. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed greatly the social networking that his coffee time and card playing time allowed him. This long time local electrician enjoyed traveling and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys, OH.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11 AM at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 1605 Celina Road with the Rev. Jeanette Tangeman officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

The family prefers that memorials be directed to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
