Robert E. McDermitt, 81, of 18705 St. Rt. 116, St.Marys, OH died 6:10 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. 

He was born December 26, 1926 in St.Marys, OH, the son of Louis and Murchel (Frey) McDermitt. 

He married Lois Reeder on August 6, 1949; she survives at the residence. 

He is also survived by:

¨ Son, Dennis McDermitt, of St.Marys, OH

¨ Daughter, Denise (Tom) Wissman of Longmont, CO

¨ Son, Nicholas (Michele) McDermitt of Morocco, IN

¨ 4 grandchildren:  Sadye Rose Wissman (and Jason R. Houston); Nicole (David) Hanen of St.Anne, IL; Jace McDermitt (and Jennifer Zelhart) of Morocoo, IN; Jeremy McDermitt of Morocco, IN

¨ 2 great-grandchildren: Lucas and Erin Hanen

¨ Parents-in-law, Lester and Frances Reeder of Spencerville, OH 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.  He retired from Buckeye Pipeline. He had later worked at Kiefaber’s Supply in St.Marys, was a farmer and also worked at SI Distributing. 

He was an active volunteer at Agape Ministries in St.Marys, OH.  He belonged to the Wayne Street Methodist Church in St.Marys.  He was a member of the Spencerville Post of the VFW and the American Legion Post #323 in St.Marys. 

He enjoyed tending to his grass and the good earth.  He was a wonderful grandfather who loved being with his grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. McDermitt were held at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St.Marys, OH on November 20 with burial following at Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys, OH.  Rev. Mary Kay Brown officiated.
