Dennis L. McDermitt, 59, of 02582 Salem Noble Road, Saint Marys, died 10:15 A.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Saint Ritas Medical Center in Lima, with his loving family and friends at his side.

He was born August 26, 1950, in Celina, Ohio, the son of Robert and Lois (Reeder) McDermitt. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Saint Marys.

He is also survived by his siblings: Denise (Tom) Wissman of Longmont, Colorado; Nicholas (Michele) McDermitt of Morocco, Indiana; by his grandparents: Lester (Frances) Reeder of Spencerville; nieces and nephews: Sadye Rose Wissman (and Jason Houston) of Longmont, Colo; Nicole (David) Hanen of Saint Anne, Illinois; Jace (Jennifer) McDermitt of Morocco, Indiana; Jeremy McDermitt of Morocco, Indiana; by a great niece and nephew, Lucas and Erin Hanen.

He was precede in death by his father.

Dennis was a 1968 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a chef who had worked at various local restaurants over the years. He loved cooking and growing vegetables, herbs and flowers. He loved to worship at the Shawnee Alliance Church, where he was very active in the life of the church.

Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Shawnee Alliance Church, 4455 Shawnee Road, Lima, Pastor Daniel Messner, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Saint Marys.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Monday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to the Kidney Dialysis Unit of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital or the Benevolence Fund of The Shawnee Alliance Church.
